For my 126 litre tank I need a school of tetras currently there is:
2 lace gouramis
5 panda corys
3 schwartzi corys
2 bristle nose catfish
4 pristella tetras
I want a school of 6 tetras. At the beginning I wanted rummy nose, but now I also like lemons. Can anyone give me some information on either of these fish?

Thanks!
P.S. Don't give me a link to Calilasseia's artical on lemons because I have already read it!

My post in this thread should provide some answers. Unfortunately it contains the infamous Lemon Tetra article link, but is otherwise the quickest way of comparing the two at short notice.

Oh, and be advised, Rummies like their aquaria fairly warm. So they might not be terribly compatible with your Pandas, which will prefer cooler temperatures.

Lemons, on the other hand, will go extremely well with your Pandas. AS mine have done for the two years I've had the Pandas

I have both Lemons & Rummies & i prefer the Rummies. To be honest, i don't know why, but they seem to school much more. Rummies prefet warmer water & i think grow bigger than Lemons.

Would rummies be ok in a temp of 23-24 degrees? I think I will go to my lfs and have a look at both lemons and rummies so I can decide which I like better. You have to be in love with them...
Thanks for the help, the reply for the post was good. (Even though it had a link to the artical..)

I prefer lemons over rummies. Sure, happy rummynose tetras may look a little nicer than happy lemons, but lemons are more active, entertaining, are hardier, and easier to acclimate (which goes right along with their hardiness). Plus, if a tank containing rummies has something *bad* happen to it, there's a chance that all of the rummies will get sick, and all of them will die. I have seen it happen before, probably not for the last time. On the flip side, I've rarely ever seen a dead lemon tetra. If you want a tetra that is more suited to the beginner's tank (one that is somewhat overstocked *hint* *hint*), go with the lemons.

My tank will NOT be overstocked.]:|I will probably go with rummies, as I wanted them since i was a beginner which I am not now *hint**hint*. I want a fish that schools tightly too.Thanksm, Brybenn I think the rummies would look nicer together with the pristellas as they are a bit yellowish so I would like some red. etc rummy red noses!![img]

If you're determined to get Rummies, then take the following steps.

[1] Do a water change and gravel vac on the day of purchase before picking up the Rummies. They'll appreciate nice clean water to come home to.

[2] Make sure that when they're transported, the bag is kept in total darkness. This seems to help reduce the transport shock that the species can be e to.

[3] When you acclimatise the Rummies, do so with the lights out, and spend a minimum of 30 minutes slowly transferring tank water to the bag. If you have the time, make it an hour.

[4] Let them swim around in the aquarium for around 2 hours before putting the lights back on.

[5] Get some live food (e.g. live Daphnia) if your LFS sells it, and feed the Rummies live Daphnia once the lights go on. A live feeding at the start of their rehousing will enhance their acclimatisation enormously if you can administer one.

[6] Once they're settled, be prepared for them to jump. Although Rummies aren't cited in the books as jumpers, remember they're long, torpedo shaped fish, and when they decide to jump, they can leap a fair distance. As they can be skittish for the first week or so of acclimatisation, make sure they're covered. I've had Rummies go carpet surfing in the past, and they can be surprisingly good aeronauts when the fancy takes them.

[7] If you decide to settle upon 24°C as a compromise temperature to keep the Rummies and the Pandas happy, watch closely for any signs that either species is taking a dislike to the conditions. And be prepared to rehouse one or the other if they object strenuously enough.

Hoe this helps again

Thanks, a heap Calilasseia, I think the temp will be around 24 degrees, and i don't htink the pandas will mind as it has been up to 26 degrees and they still seemed very happy and active. I can't get live daphnia but i can get live shrimp and sometimes live black worms. I will definitely get live shrimps as my other fish will enjoy this treat too! I will acimatize them very carefully, I will try and do it for an hour. Should I put them in a bucket and drip water through a tube into the bucket until it is full? I will put htem in on water change day. (I have to quarantien them with daily water changes)

Brine Shrimp should be fine. Your Rummies will devour them eagerly. As will your Pandas if buy enough to let them have a feast too!!!

If you're putting the Rummies in a quarantine aquarium all on their own to begin with, then you could use a drip method if you can rig up the tubing, sure. Oh, if you ARE putting them in a quarantine aquarium, I would pop in some plastic plants so that they have something roughly plant like to help them feel secure. They'll probably appreciate the extra effort.

[font color="#800080"]Thanks for the advice. I have a pot with big holes in it that they can swim through and hide in, and I have 4 plastic plants aswell. I will get a lot of brine shrimp so all my fish can have a tasty treat!:%) I will quarantine all 6 of them a the same time so they don't get stressed.
