I just got a large banded leporinus for my 70usg gallon tank a few days ago, and i have a few questions.

Do they get bigger than 12" (99% of web sites say 12" max size) the dude at the LFS recons 18"

how do i get it 2 eat? i've had it 3 days now, and as far as i can see, it hasn't eatn anything

what should i feed it?

thanx guys

I'd say that 12" would be maximum for a wild fish, probably smaller in aquaria. As for feeding, ask the LFS what they were feeding it and try that, then mix it with what you normally use for food, it might help. I'd check the water perametres too. The fish (if its big) may have been in the LFS for some time and will need time to adjust to the new water chemistry. Observe it closely and do as suggested with regards the feeding.

I actually got this fish off another aquariust, thats why it's so big I'm pretty sure it was eating nutrafin algea tablets before i got it, but hasn't eatin nething yet....i even got an oxy weed plant to c if he would nibble on that.

also, after looking at a book in the LFS, it appears to be leporinus affinus.....the website i looked at was obviously wrong

thanks for the link Calilasseia. i knew they were schoolers, but i also read they are aggresive 2 each other if only kept in pairs. I also knew they were big jumpers, so i put a piece of wood over the top over my tank (it had no lid ) My stock list is in my profile, if u wanna have a look. i will be upgrading to a 125g in the next couple of years. I the person i got it off was getting rid of it cause it had killed their cigar shark and was harrasing their balas.

so far i havn't had 2 much trouble. i don't think he likes my featherfin syno much, mainly because it's almost as big as him but he's big and ugly enough to look after himself

Even so, keep an eye on those Lepos ... they can be sneakily aggressive and do things when you're back's turned, some species (e.g., frederici, the huge one that hits 20 inches) have a particularly nasty reputation in this regard.
