I am new to fishes. So I wanted something that is pretty and travels in a group. I hear Neon Tetras are schooling fishes. So I went to my local pet store and got 11 neons. At first they stayed in there group. Then 1-2 weeks passed and now my neons aren't schooling together a whole lot. They are always scattered all over the place. Then I remembered reading somewhere when Neon Tetras don't school together, it means they are comfortable with their surroundings.

Is this true?

I know this is a stupid question, but i'm curious.

Thanks in advance.

Yup. Basically, they've realized that the area is safe, and that it's a large enough group that they can spread out a little, no worries.

If you really want them to school tightly, throw in a small angelfish or something--a small angelfish won't be able to eat the neons, but may try to chase them around for a while, before realizing that they are untenable.

Aww but that would stress your poor little neons out. Plus depending on the size of your tank, angels may get too big. (they should have at least a 30 gallon tank)

Yup, like Molly said dont worry about it. My tetras never school, unless they're scared. It just means you've done a good job giving them a cozy home...erm, tank.

Oh, and welcome to fishprofiles!!!
