Cards for sure, they are much more colorful, carry less disease, and live longer, its no contest. Dont get me wrong I dont dislike neons but if I have to chose it would be cards for sure.

wow, this is a little closer than i thought it would be, even though cardinals are winning at the moment.

A lot of people are giving the same excused from their points of view making it look like it may just be different experiances, or different stores giving different quality fish.

both have there flaws. neons are cheap cardinals are a little more expensive. neons are easier to breed using hormones and alot cardinals are wild caught some are hormone induced but i heard it was still difficult. it all depends if the fisherys or fish catchers get lucky. which determine the prices. here they cost $.50-1.00 US for neons and $1.25-2.99 for cardinals.

also i think the country which cardinals are fished from is limiting the amount of cardinals being caught in order to preserve them, sinc ehte pet market is really hurting there wild numbers

I like cards a lot better because:

1) both red and blue stripes run from nose to tail fin (neon stripes only go halfway)

2) they're a little bigger than neons

3) they don't have their own diease!!! (in other words they're hardier)

I prefer cardinals because they are better looking. I think they have a nicer shape and much more color.

I am also annoyed by neons (and plain guppies) because they seem like cheap-o fish that you see at the dentists office and as little kids first pets and stuff. just a personal thing.

cards are more classy

If you're paying $40 for a cardinal tetra you're seriously getting ripped off.

That was the additional cost of having an entire school of fish that were cardinals instead of neons. It adds up.

Cardinals! Yea they look better. I've currently got a tank with six 1.5" cardinals (2 years old) and man do they look good. Anyway neon's are good fish too. I've also got 12 of those Just get them through quarantine and they'll do just fine. If any fall sick IT IS YOUR FAULT FOR NOT KEEPING THE WATER QUALITY HIGH.

Just bought 10 green neon tetras too. Tiny things.

Nicer colours (Neons only have have of their bodies covered as Cardinals are covered with red and blue) and Neons have a 50% mortality rate and Cardinals is considerably less. Cardinals are slightly larger which can be good or bad depending on what you want.

Well I voted for Neons because I've had neons for more than 3 years now and i've never had a problem. I never knew neons have such bad health problems, but maybe they're not as bad in Australia. Cardinals are great fish but they're pretty expensive in certain areas down here. Also I love the Gold neon variety which can be found sometimes.

I also agree that neons are great beginners fish and are also one of the best schooling community fish you can get.
