i've just added 8 emperor tetras to my 4' tank
they are having a whale of a time with my keyhole cichlids, ottos, peppered cories and tiger barbs
i have, i think about 3 males.........i'll have to check again when i get home, cuz i'm at school at the mo.
but they are a little shy at the mo, but have coloured up since i released them from the bag
i plan on increasing the shoal, and when my tb's have passed away, i will convert the tank to a fully SA biotype

Hi,

Little tip for cheap rocks. Go to your local garden center and buy state rocks there. Way cheaper than what you find at the LFS and does the same job. One important thing to mention, you may want to check them first before buying them. Bring with you a small container ( few ml will do fine ) of Javel ( hypochlorine solution, Bleach if you will ) and pour a few drops on the rocks. If you see no reactions ( bubbles ), then they are good to pick. Once at home, you may brake the ones that are too large or thick... etc. Wash your rock with clear water and a brush to remove any dirt/residue.

Simple, safe and economical!

Don't you mean hydrochloric acid?

Usually it's an acidic solution you test rocks with to see if they're calcareous - in which case they're fine for a Rift Lake or marine aquarium, but a no-no for a softwater setup.

Battery acid will do the job just as well.
