I bought 4cardinals yesterday and now 2 are missing. THey are schooling with the neon at least the ones that are left. They are quite a bit smaller than the neon and vunerable to the angels. Do you think i should try more cardinals or give up on keeping them with angels?? Ill try bigger cardinals if possible and after christmas ill have alot of money to furnish my tank w/ live plant for cover.

Okay, just to clarify, could you list your tank size, and all the fish in it? That way, folks responding to this know the basics.

How big are/were the cardinals, and how large are/is the angelfish? If they are fairly big angels, then there is a good chance that they ate some of the cardinals. I can't know for sure though, unless I know how big they are.

Sorry 33gallon. Bristlenose, 2angels, 11neons, 2cardinals, they cardinals are pretty small quite a bit smaller than my smallest neon. Very skinny too. I would say mabe half an inch. The angels are fairly big i guess. probably around 1 1/2inches. WHen i put the cardinals in i saw the angels chasing them till they found the neon school. LAter that night i found one and when i woke up i found anoher .

I think that the Angels might have ate your Cardinals. I had trouble with fully grown Angels & Rummynose.

I would first add the Plants & later add more Cardinals. You can choose another type of Tetra or maybe Corydoras for your tank.

If they're that tiny, I wouldn't be surprised if the angels had a yummy (and depending on where you live, expensive!) treat. You're better off not adding tiny tetras, even with a heavily planted tank I'd go for bigger guys.

I find it odd that hobbyists don't realize that big fish eat little fish...

Sometimes, but not always, if the little fish are the first in the tank, the larger fish, added later, will leave them alone.

If the cards were "really skinny", as you put them, I'd bet good money that they passed away over the night and were sucked dry via the bns. Emaciation is usually a good indication of the likelihood of death amongst cards and neons. Flip over all the ornaments if you can--to check for remains, etc.

And another neon and a cardinal died today. Looked around the tank and found no evidence the angels dont look any bigger and this is the first time they would have done this. Do you think the filter may have got em.
