yes, piranha are illegal in many countries and a good amount of states in the u.s. as well. i know that most, if not all, of the states on the eastern n western seaboard and a majority of the southern states have made it illegal to buy, sell,or even own piranha. for those who want to know the legal status of piranha in their state or country u can probably find out here... http://www.opefe.com the site and OPEFE(oregon piranha and exotic fish exhibit) are run by a man named Frank Magallenes. hes done alot of good things for conscientious piranha owners over the years.

I don't think it is a pointless post at all, maybe just a way to spark some conversation. Now if she made 20 similar posts throughout the board might be different

I think piranhas have some good points, but prefer a fish with more personality. Where I currently live they are illegal as well due to specimens being released into the wild.

I don't think you have to ask a question on these posts, and IMO that was very rude.

It may have been lacking sentence form but you don't need to demand her to ask questions I belive comments are fully allowed.

They are a funny looking fish in my opinion, mind you I thought that about the Oscar a while back and now I love them. As well I have never kept them.

So it might be fair to say I am not a good person to be on this post BUT if I had the chance to keep them I would.

piranha are an interesting fish. with alot of the same behavioral characteristics of other tetras. despite their "ferocious" reputation, most people are suprised at just how skittish they are in the home aquarium. if you have any specific questions about them feel free to ask or PM me.

P.S. heres a couple of pics of piranha i have owned. the first is of the largest red belly piranha(pygocentrus nattereri) i had, named Snap
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/TIGER9/55%20gallon%20tank/snap.jpg

and this is a pic of the red throat piranha(serrasalmus spilopleura cf) i had, named Diablo. the spilopleura cf is a color variant of the common spilopleura often called the yellow or gold piranha.

Anyway, what do you want to know about them...

[link=here]http://fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/piranha.xml" style="COLOR: #FF0000[/link] is the profile for them on this site. If you search the web you will find more profiles.

Janna is right though, if you have a question, ask please.

If you actually have a question regarding piranhas, it would be best to actually ASK a question. If not, please don't bother making pointless posts.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.
