All piranhas grow much too large for a 20 gallon tank. Besides, they are schooling fish, which means you'd have to keep a group of them.

I agree with Jon, you should probably go with tetras. They are cousins of the piranha, since both are characins.

not all species of piranha can be shoaled in home aquariums. most species in the serrasalmus genus must be kept in a single specimen tank.
i would get some colombian tetras

i agree, i had a small school of these, theyre cheap n active. and do have many of the behavioral qualities of piranha.

yes tetras
a piranah is not a tetra. I would go with some cardinals for the tank as they have nice color and will help bring out the tank.

Technically, tetras are mini-piranhas. They are both characins, and therefore related fish.

Mcfat, are you going to respond? If so, heed the advice here. Tetras would be a great choice, as many kinds are beautiful, they are often hardy, and fun to watch school around the tank.

Nope, they get too large as well. For interesting fish, have you considered dwarf cichlids or cories? These fish will fit in a 20 gallon, and have great personalities. Just ask anyone else here.

I would get a south american leaf fish as they are highly preditory and if you like to see fish eat worm and fish and stuff that would be my pic. They dont get 2 big only about 4in.
