I have a Black Skirt Tetra that is either with eggs or the Dom DeLuise of fish.

The questions are;

How Long before she lays her eggs?

How can I tell a Male from a Female so that I will have a Male in the tank to fertilize her eggs?

and

How many eggs can I expect?

Thanx

the female will have a staight rounded fin and the males will look like it is flowing, also the males dorsal fin is taller and the females are plumper.

Here is a Picture of the fish I have and I am wondering if the smaller one is male.

I think it is from the description but I am not sure.

they are both females so if you want breeding you will need a male.

Yup definitly male

Within 1 hour of puting him in the small tank with her she was laying eggs everywhere.

But if all of her eggs hatch I am going to be knee deep in fry very soon

I may have to accelerate my plans for a bigger tank...

I am in Southeast Texas.

I watched the 2 of them dance for almost 4 hours and estimating the egg fall I would say she dropped about 700 eggs.

If 10% hatch that will be 70 fry.

These will be raised for at least a while in my 1 gallon isolation tank. (Yes it is sterile, I bought it when I figured out she wasn't just getting fat.)

If anybody can tell me how to ship fish I will be happy to send some along as soon as they are big enough.

Remember I have a no return policy

sending fish to far places, more than an hour is probably not a great idea unless you have the perfect conditions for them like..... oxyegen, temperature of the water. Unless you find a way for a great way to send them, i would try to keep them, or when they get older, see if a LFS would take them.

I have fry

Don't know how many yet they are all hiding in the rocks and breeder grass. But I see fry

This is the first time I have ever had baby fish.

I live in pensacola Florida, that would probably be to far to ship.

I have family in Panama City Fl. I may be down that way in October. I will have to see if you still want some and bring them.

I talked to the people at my LFS today and they said that fish can be moved if kept in comfortable temp water in large bags. They said to use a styrofoam cooler and lots of air in the bags.

I think there is close to 100 fry swimming in my 1 gallon isolation tank. They are about twice the size of pin heads right now.

Well i'd suggest getting a bigger tank, doesn't necciserily need to be a glass fish tank either tho.

You could use any large container (water buck etc, think these usually hold about 90 litres (25ish gallons)
