I happened to be lucky enough to stumble upon these neat fish! OF course i scooped up 6 of them. Can anyone lend me their insight on these fish? Or experiences? Photos would be fun too! Thanks!

I believe they are just like the black phantom tetras. You should be able to get some info from the profile section. I have 9 black phantoms and they are great. They are large enough to really show well in the tank. They swim all over the place. They can be a bit nippy towards each other. I have a couple with slightly tattered top fins. Nothing to serious and they don't mess with any of my other fish. I believe they are quite hardy as well. enjoy.

LOL well I should mention that I also have black phantoms, just in a different tank... What i should ask is the care for the b. phantoms, the same as the r. phantoms?

Red phantoms prefer cool water (low 70's, high 60's). Other than that, low pH and dim lighting bring out the subtle beauty of this fish. I've been trying to find them for a while, congrats and enjoy.

I have a lot of experience with them. I keep reading that, like Neons, they do prefer water a bit cooler than the usual tropical -- about 72 deg F (22 C) -- but I'm currently keeping a school at fully 80 F (27 C), having raised the temperature to help rid them of a sudden epidemic of Ich. It worked, and they still seem quite comfortable. In my experience they are a lot less delicate than the books make out -- for instance, they seem very resistant to Neon Disease.

I have nothing but good to say about them, provided you wait and hold out for the brightly colored ones rather than the pale pink ones in the stores.

If you can find the Braz Walker pocket book, it devotes a section to Red Phantoms. And congratulations on getting a very nice tetra species!

Red Phantoms in the stores are, too often, a rather vague, faded pale pink. The really bright ones, by contrast, look like they're made out of red-orange glass -- and I'm happy to say that they're getting commoner in the stores. (I don't know whether the pale ones were poorly nourished in the fish farms or what.)

Six weeks carpet bombing with live Daphnia and colour flake should see even the washed out ones become little gems ... do that to the intensely coloured ones and they'll end up practically glowing in the dark
