Angie, I'd LOVE to get some Rosies after seeing how stunning they are ... only thing is, I'd have to part with my Lemons to make space for them, and since I've had the Lemons for 7 years, they're like old friends ... I need another aquarium

Actually, I need another house ... one with space for about 50 fish tanks

Want to colour up your Rosies?

Feed live daphnia interspersed with colour flake such as TetraRuby ColorPride. This works wonders with my Lemons (which are now solid yellow!) and should work even better with Rosies, as the carotenoids will enhance the red hues of the fish.

Rosies come into my two well-stocked LFSs fairly often -- and one of them now has an entirely new breed of Rosy-like Hyphessobrycon tetra that was just discovered last year. Very pretty, and fairly different from regular Rosies (especially in the dorsal fin) -- but I'll take another look at them before I post a precise description.

I've now got 14 of them in a tank and they're all getting on very well. The first lot i bought are not very rosy though has anyone got any idea what to feed them to get their colour back?

See advice above your last post. Make it 12 minimum. If you have the space, the more the merrier. I have this dream about putting something like 40 of them in a 6 foot aquarium full of Java Moss encrusted bogwood and Italian Vallisneria or similar, and I bet that's one aquarium that would rock

If you can, get another 8. Twelve Rosies in a shoal will make a truly stunning sight!

i have 4 rosys. they are lovely to watch but sometimes are a bit shy. however at eating time they are voracious.

i have found that they are hard to find and had to wait quite a while for one of the better LFS to get them on special order.

I wish I could post a picture of mine, not that they are the greatest, but I'm impressed with them. But, I don't have a digital camera, I'm sorry.

And the fact is, the image in the profile isn't even a rosy tetra at it's best. The males can look infinitely more awesome when displaying to each other.

And Angie's almost as much in love with them as she is her Panda Corys - isn't that right Angie?

LOL LOL! That's right Cal! Key word being almost! I have to say the pandas definitely have 1st place with me!

However, these rosaseus (sp?) tetras are amazing to watch, particularly in the evening. In the evening, their colors deepen to a beautiful shade of dark rose/almost a mauve color. (the males) They swim past each other with their dorsal fins flared & wow, I cannot even begin to describe the show they put on! I am so glad I was FINALLY able to find these & get them. They seem like a hardy fish & they are active too!

They are wonderful characins - that cerise hue in the fins is amazing to behold, and what's more, they're nice and peaceful too! Yay!

Oh yes, Rosies are wonderful tetras. If I had space for them I'd get some to play tag with my Lemons & Pencil Fish

[Edited because this library keyboard was designed for midgets - sigh]

Hi, I've had my eye on these for some time & FINALLY was able to get a school of 6 of them about 3-4 weeks ago. They are beautiful. I've been feeding a variety of flake, freeze-dried, & frozen foods & I believe their colors are starting to deepen!

They seem somewhat similar to the black phantoms in that they flare their dorsal fins at one another...very cute to watch.
