The girl at the pet store said that you can throw green peas oe lettuce in the tank. Won't that possible cloudy up the tank? Thanks Roddy |

Lettuces, cucumber zuchinni, duckweed, etc all go down pretty well. The trick is not to leave it in the tank all day.Let them eat for 5-10 minutes or a bit longer for slower feeders, and then take it out, and offer more later. Sometimes using living plants like duckweed can be a handy solution, any weed the fish dont actually eat will still be alive and helping to actively keep the tankwater sweet, they also grow very fast , which is handy. It generally takes a day or two for the green planktonic microorganisms and algaes to start to form, so if you get rid of uneaten veggies same day there should be no problem. If you use fruit remember to do larger water changes because the fructose will build up in the water. I would offer them veggie flakes too, primarily for the vitamins, but youll probably find that a lot of supposedly veggie flakes and tablet foods contain more animal protien than you might imagine, so to balance the diet, offer both. |
