hey, whats up

I am thinking about buying a 55G AGA tank
Aside from the tank pumps etc.. i have some questions

I am planning to stock it with Neon Tetras, The reason for this is their schooling,
I would love to have another school or type of fish in the tank. I am really interested in what else will work with Neon tetras?

If their is not any type of fish that will work with Neons I may be wiling to not go for Neon tetras.

But I think that a large shcool of Neon tetras in a Mildly planted 55G tank would look increadible

Thanks, Later

Yeah, a big school of neon or cardinal tetras does look pretty cool, especially with the right background and substrate colors. However, just one kind of fish is boring for some people. You were looking for other schooling fish, why not go with more tetras?
Most of the smaller (less than two inches) species will get along just fine with neons, and won't intimidate the neons. Also, they will not outcompete the neon tetras for food. Larger species like Buenos Aires and Congo tetras can make life a pain for neon tetras, even through nonaggressive means. So, stick with some smaller tetras. Silvertips, lemons, flames, green fires, and pristellas would all fit the bill, as would numerous other kinds.

Are these the schooling fish you were looking for?

A good contrast fish in that size tank might be a few bolivan rams.

One suggestion. Go with cardinals over neons.
Cardinals once acclimated are:

more colorful
Bigger
healther

then the neons you will be at your lfs.

A big school of Cardinals & some Rams in a planted tank, would look great.
You can also add a school of Corydoras.

Yep, I'd agree with Angie. I've had Cardinals and Rummies together in the past (as it so happens, wiith Lemons too), and that would make one amazing sight - say 20 of each (Cardinals/Neons and Rummies). I reckon that would be possible in a 55.

Is it going to be a planted tank? With Cardinals or Neons (or both) throw in some rummy nose tetras like Angie recommends. They'd look great in a planted tank with the Cardinals or Neons. Also, throw in some cory's like someone else suggested. I'd go with panda cory's cause I really like their personality and interaction with each other. Get at least 6. Good luck!

BTW: Yes this will be planted, I feel not planting a 55G is pointless and a waste.

Thanks Later
