I have a very hardy school of 11 cardinals and 8 rummynoses.
Everytime I try to increase my school of cards to about 17. It seems that one by one some die off and I end up with 11 that do very well. Anyone know why this might happen.
I don't think it's my water, because my school of 11 have been together for about one year.

Your current ones are used to your water, the new ones need to be acclimated slowly. I recommend you drip them for 3 hours next time.

Possibly, but some of the ones that die off might do so over the course of several months. Could that still be acclimation. I do acclimate for about 2 hours with the lights off.

Cardinals are amongst the worst treated of aquarium fish. I wouldn't swaet it if your current stock is thriving--it's probbably just the individuals that you get from the LFS. As a general rule, you should wait a week before purchasing cards.

EDIT: oh, did you say two months? In that case, I couldn't tell you what would be causing your deaths---sterss related fatalities happen pretty quickly.

How big is your tank tetratech?

If your tank is too small or overstocked it could be from stress.
