In my tank I have guppies, platies, neon tetras, albino glowlight tetras and head and fin glowlight tetras. I've never seen any agression between them but I've heard a few horror stories about tetras and guppies, do my types of tetras have a bad reputation or are they more docile than others?

Thanks!

Vicks

Nah, don't worry about it. Your tetras are some of the most peaceful ones, and rarely bother other fish. The nippy tetras tend to be the larger ones, like serpaes, bleeding hearts, and Congos. You won't have any problems between your small tetras and your guppies, as you are experiencing in your tank.

I have guppies, neon tetras and glowlight tetras in my tank and they all get along great together. They all swim and eat together. Dont worry about fin nipping but if it does happen you can buy and inexpensive breeder attachment to confine the agressive fish to a smaller place.

Good luck!

I have large finned guppies with....

-Black Neons
-Regular Neons
-X-Ray/Pristella Tetras (Onle 1.. the other died for no reason )
-Silver Hatchetfish
-Rather large red-blue columbian tetras

And I have no problems whatsoever. I even have a healthy population of fry (unfortunately). The only fish I worry about with my guppies is my male opaline gourami. He's nipped two of them so bad they became infected. Hasn't done it in a while so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it won't happen anymore.

On the subject of Tetras to avoid placing with fishes such as Guppies, make a note of this one. Hemigrammus caudovittatus, the Buenos Aires Tetra.

These are feisty enough to be kept as dither fish with Convict Cichlids and other bad tempered companions. And will trash Guppies without a pause for breath. This species has earned a reputation for being a reprobate among the shoaling Characins, even more so than the Serpaes. Not a species to be messed with.

It really depends sometimes. Like guppies and danios. I keep rather large tailed fancy guppies with my danios, but my sister's guppies (which have significantly smaller tails) are chewed upon. *rolls eyes* Needless to say, she's not happy about that.

But as has been said, your tetras are relatively peaceful and not known as fin nippers, so you should be perfectly fine.

Well my only concern is the glowlights becoming nippy. I tried it for a while and then they would bite the tails of the guppies. Just something to watch for.

I actually have had guppies and neons together for over 3 years, (until last week) and never had any problems with them. The guppies occassionally would try to mate with the neons, but the neons didn't seem to mind, and the neons would occassionally try to make the guppies school with them, but there wasn't any trouble in that either:%)

But, I must agree if you want agression go with the Black Widow Tetras, and since I had them I tend to stay away from all tetras of that shape and size...EVIL EVIL EVIL FISH Just my two cents on the matter...
