goldfisher![]() Hobbyist Posts: 96 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Aug-2004 ![]() ![]() | I recently visited another fish forum and found a topic on tetra compatability. They mention about mixing tetras with guppys and was replyed with a yes, they can go together. I was wanting to get a second opinon on this. |

Guppies need a little salt in their water, need harder and slightly alkaline water. Tetras cannot tolerate salt adn like soft and low PH water. The only tetras I could think of that will go together with Guppies are Diamond Tetras, who require similar water perams. ------------------------------------------------- I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions |

Also, it's true that tetras do prefer an acidic pH, but I keep my lemon tetras, and my pH is over 8.0. Again, it's preferred to have a low pH for tetras, but not necessary. Also, I'm sure guppies can take acidic water. |

Neons, Cherry Barbs, Guppies, and Platys, as well as 3 brand new baby Yoyo Loaches I just got, 1 elusive Kuhli Loach, and 2 Trilineatus Corys. The Ph in this tank was 7.8 (i just added peat about a week ago and havent tested it yet), and the water hardness was well over 300ppm. Most tetras are very hardy and very adaptable, as are guppies and most other livebearers. I say they will be fine. Of Course, keeping in mind that Guppies can have nice long gorgeous fins, you wouldnt want to keep them with say Bleeding Heart Tetras, Serpae Tetras, Buenos Aires Tetras, Black Phantoms or the like. Most of the larger tetras will definetly find your guppies an easy target, as guppys arent exactly the quickest fish. However, smaller type tetras, Pristellas, Glowlights, Neons, Cardinals, Black Neons, Rummynose, etc, would be perfect fine, and probably wonderfully happy to be in the companionship of such a kind peaceful fish as guppies.
