I have six neon tetras in a ten gallon tank. I am wondering what other tetras I could put in there. I want tetras that swim around and are fun to watch. My neons stay in the bottom of the tank, in there shoal. They all stay together in the plants. I was thinking of putting five rummy nose in there but if you have any other suggestions I would appreciate it. I don't really want cardinals because they are so small at my lfs.

In a tank that small, I personally wouldn't add another school of tetras. You'd be better off getting either bottom or top-dwelling fish, so that they don't occupy the same area as the neons. In a ten gallon tank, you want to maximize the available space.

How about adding a shoal of relatively small top dwelling fish like white clouds.

If you dont want to move your neons to ur other tank you could probably get a surface dweller such as a DWARF gourami for the upper part of your tank.

If you decide to move the neons i would go with some pristella tetras or even some lemon tetras! They both do great in groups of 3-5! And they are peaceful and active! You should do some research on the fish before buying them and then check back with us! And by the way i would not go with the rummynose just yet...they are very non-dense when it comes to fish transport, from lfs.

If none of these u like, u could always go with some cute cories!

10Gal. is too small for another school of Tetra's. If you move the Neons to the 29Gal. tank, you can replace them by some Lemon Tetra.

i'm assuming the 29 will be a new tank. if you want you can add some harlequin rasboras. they aren't tetras but the are small, peaceful, and they school nicely. go along with what someone wrote earlier and add a small school of cories. maybe a couple of dwarf gouramis for a centerpiece. maybe an otto or two to control the algae and you will be all set.

2 Bolivian Rams, Mikrogeophagus altispinosus: Gumby and Pokey

Regarding tetras (or rasboras) that are "fun to watch": well, there are an awful lot of downright beautiful ones, but I haven't noticed many with interesting habits. The one exception is Beckford's Pencilfish, where the males are continuously swimming up alongside each other and challenging each other nonviolently with a weird little shimmying dance. (These are also the only Pencilfish that are easy to keep.) I used to think they were doing a mating dance until I learned that it was the males doing it to each other... Other people report interesting nonviolent challenges on the part of Black Phantoms and (I believe) Lemons, but having never kept either one I don't know about that.

Ah, Beckford's Pencils ... as for that 'jousting' that Bruce has just mentioned, here is a pic of two of my males doing just that ...

dwarf gouramis do somthing similar too.(or mine do anyway) they line up mouth to tail, and swim in circle. they do this for 20-30 seconds and one gives up and swims away.
