I have a school of 6 glowlights and they occasionaly chase each other but no nipping. I think that they would be fine with a betta. I have a Gourami with pretty long fins and i have Rams in the tank with the glowlights and the glowlights only ever chase each other and never seem to bother other fish, except my Cardinals. They always want to shoal with them and then the Cardinals get kinda angry and start bombing the glowlights. Funny to watch and no one ends up hurt They are probably the Tetra with the most personality They always come near my hand when i gravel vac the tank and they dont swim away and hide like the other fish. Great fish

I want glowlights. Does anyone think 7 glowlights would be intimidated by 6 black/white skirts in a 29 gal.?

I have one female betta in a ten gallon tank with four glowlights, one neon and two ottos. All are happy and peaceful. The glowlights poise no threat to the betta at all. I would worry more about the personality of the betta.
Good luck with your fish.

Above is a thread that I started a while back about glowlights. They are awesome fish!

EDIT:
I have 12 and they Do NOT nip my beta. Genetics and environment play a role in any creatures behavior.

T/A: If you really want to do it, get 3 to try at first, watch carefully, and if it works out get another 3. If it doesn't work out, put the 3 Glowlights in your tank with the Corys. But don't get another 3, as this would be geting too crowded. The Glowlights will be happy in the Corys tank, as Corys being bottom dwellers they won't get into each other way. Good luck. This is only my opinion.

I still don't no what I'll do. I really don't want to get new fish, than have it not work out with the Betta. Cause right now, I'm at my limit on number of tanks. And I don't think my other tanks could handle any more fish.

I would make sure to keep an eye on things both ways. Like mentioned previously, the glowlights may or may not nip at the betta.

I've never had luck keeping a male betta in a community tank. But the problems I always had were with the betta going after the other fish, not the reverse.

Just depends on the individual personalities on the fish I suppose.

As stated above, Glowlights are normally peaceful, but keep an eye on them just in case.

T/A, no sure bets in anything in the fish world. Only trying, watching, and expermenting, and you could or might get the results you are after. Fish are not unlike us humans. They have their likes and dislikes, just like we do. But were we don't need to have anything to do with someone we don't like, fish on the other hand have no option once you put them together in a tank. There is no getting away. So out comes the nipping/flaring/glaring/biting you get the picture.

What are they like? Are they nippy? Fast swimming?
I've read many profiles about them, so I know a good amount about them. But none of the profiles mentioned their behavior. Any help would be appreciated.

"It might work."
That's what I was thinking and it seems to be the common response I've been getting.

I suppose nothing is a sure bet to live peacefully with a male Betta. Or is there?

I also would say it might work, but I would watch out more on the Betta. He might pick on the Glowlights. My in-laws have community tanks, with a Betta in with Mollys/Plattys and he picks on the Plattys. In another tank they have one in with some Angels and there is a bit of a push and shove going on. This one is only new and the Angels been there for a while, so its a bit of a staking out their terrioritys at the moment.

It will probably work -- but keep an eye on whether the Glowlights nibble his tail. Even small, peaceful tetras such as Neons frequently love to do that to male Bettas, although I don't know whether Glowlights would.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. What I was planning on; 6 Glowlights in my Betta's 10 gallon. My Betta is fairly small, only about 1 1/2" without tail. The tank is heavily silk planted. Does any think that wouldn't work?

Very peaceful -- not nippy that I've ever noticed. In fact, they're among the most timid tetras I've ever kept; unles you get a school of about a half dozen, they'll tend to hide behind your plants.

Other than that (and the fact that they do seem susceptible to Neon Tetra Disease), they're superb little fish. (By the way, they absolutely love algae wafers -- they seem to have tastes a lot more vegetarian than most tetras.)

My hubby has 3 glowlights (see my profile for hubbys tank and what he has in with them.) and none of these fish show any signs of aggression to the glowlghts. They even hide in a log along with a Pictus Catfish and a Albino Rainbow shark (see photo booth under Cuddling fish by ptp) the glowlight is at the back of the log in that photo. They are not nippy at all. When I clean the tank, they move around my hands, very friendly. Sometimes they stay in a group of 3, but most of the time lately they are going their own way, and meeting up later on. When they want to hung out with other fish, it mainly with the Glass catfish that they shoaling with.

My glowlights are really peaceful and not nippy in any way. I have never heard of them being nippy either.
