When I was a kid I had a 10gal but that was a very long time ago and a lot has changed. I recently picked up a 40gal tank got it setup and added 4 lemon tetras to cycle the tank. I am going to add a few more lts but I also wanted some fish that would look good and get a long with the lts. The next fish I get I would prefer if it got a little bigger than the lts. So what fishes look good w/ them, play nicely and are a little larger? So far I have on my "short list": Bleeding Heart Tetras Blue Damsels Blue Gourami I don't know if these are good w/ the lts or not. Thanks to all for your time. -John |

I'm sure you're going to get lots of good help from this site (as I have). Lemon tetras are nice fish. You definitely have the right idea in wanting to increase the number of lemon tetras. I would think that six would be the bare minimum. As for your other suggestions, I think bleeding hearts would be finde with your lemon tetras. I believe blue damsels are saltwater fish, unless there is a freshwater fish by that name that I've never heard of (which is entirely possible -- if so, someone will correct me). In that case, they're definitely out. Blue gouramis can be a bit aggressive -- you might want to consider dwarf gouramis (small but beautiful) or pearl gouramis (large like blue gouramis, but much more peaceful). Of the ones you listed, I think bleeding hearts would be your best bet. |

You can browse through the [link=profiles]http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/fw/" style="COLOR: #FFFFC0[/link] here, using the more detailed search at the bottom where you can enter max size of fish, temperament, etc. Also walk around your lfs, write down names of fish that interest you and let us know what you come up with. You'll get good input that way. Good luck and keep us posted ![]() ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Regardless of the 2nd fish type I think I will add some more lts. Maybe getting the school up to 8 or so. What is the optimal amount of lts? -John |
