Sure, you could add a school of 6 to 8.

What do you mean by "the pleco is growing out"? Are you considering moving him to a larger tank or returning him to the LFS, because royals get too big for a 20 gallon.

Once your big PLec is rehoused, you'll be able to add the Lemons.

This article (link follows) should tell you all you need to know about them!

Yes, get 8 Lemon's. They are superb fish with cool colours. The Yellow is fantastic.

Move the Royal to a larger tank & enjoy your fish.

Four inches? It sounds like your pleco is already a little too large for that tank. I'd move it, then add a bunch of lemons. They are very colorful and charismatic tetras, and are pretty tough to kill. You would do well to add a good sized school of lemons to your tank.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Four inches is fine. Once he nearly doubles (I'd say around 7" that length, I'd move him.
