Recently i have been looking around the LSF's and there has been a serious lack of cardinals anywhere, i was told this is because the stocks coming in are of poor quality with high mortality rates. Anyone know whats going on? ]:|

I'm not from the United Kingdom, so I can't help you too much. However, I can believe that many of the collected cardinals are of poor quality and dying. Most cardinal tetras for sale have been imported, and often have parasites and disease. When they are sitting in distributor tanks, a lot of them get sick and die. Wild fish that are collected for the aquarium trade are under a lot of stress, and cardinals aren't the hardiest tetras out there.
I'm sure that you will be able to find some soon, though. It is probably just bad luck that there aren't currently available.

Thanks for the replies people, i'm not too bothered by the shortages here as my tank is fully stocked anyways! it's just a shame for the people here that have room for them but can't have em!

mail order is the way.
www.trimar.co.uk are really good. they don't have the range of tock that american mail order companies seem to, but their fish are quality and they definitelyt stretch to things as 'exotic' as cardinals.
