Temp 25C
They will eat just about any type of fish food. They school great. These fish are egglayers. Apparently the key to breeding them is a lot of room and bright lighting to initiate spawning. They will lay up to 300 eggs that will drop to the bottom. The fish prefers soft, peat filtered water with lower light levels which can be provided by floating plants.

they look the best with natural sunlite hittin them the females r very drap compared to the males
the males dorsal fin should at maturity reach to the end of the dorsal fin the other fins about 1/2 that length they love live food n wil lexcept anything myn breed at 6.6ph n are very hardy i have a pair that breeds constantly the fry r very difficult to raise
during mating the male will extend all finnage n shutter n shake very rapidly beside the female n then he will smash his body into hers
they do this for 5-30 mins with in a couple days after if ur lucky u will see sum tiny lil silvery specs of fry goodluck

My congo tetras are my favorites. Even though the females aren't as nicely coloured as the male they do display a bit of blue and orange and with their big shiney scales are, to me, absolutely gorgeous!

My congos are one of my favourite fish. My 2 females will even take food from my hand. They do have a slight aggressive tendancy. When they first reach full size, watch out. They will chase and fight with each other. This will result in fin damage. One of my males lost most of his top fin in a fight.

As for breeding behavior, mine have started to think. The males will follow the females very closely. I have tried to breed them, but not been able to get the proper set up. They have not spawned yet but it seems close.

i heard you need to use peat or something in the water to help the congos spawn.

The problem is I don't have a tank that they will be comfotable to spawn in. They are not happy without the other fish in the tank. They are a challange. I will try to get them to spawn, to keep the eggs in check. I will let you know how it works out.
