Yeah, they at least prefer being kept in schools. These active fish greatly benefit from having companions around, and will zoom around the tank in their school. At work, our Congos like to swim around in circles in large groups, which is really funny to watch! Yes, these fish should definitely be kept in schools of at least six fish.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Yes most definitely they should be kept in schools of at least six fish. I had six but one died so i now have five (3 males, 2 females)but they seem to be doing fine with just five. They are very pretty fish and are very active but not at all nasty they just fly about doing their own thing all together.

I personally find that congos don't school for me unless greatly spooked. In fact, they dont even shoal. Instead, they usuall swim in pairs and trios, analogous to cherry barbs and other semi social puntiids.

You breed pairs? IME, congos tend to engage in "spawning orgies", rather than pair up. Then again, my spawns never yielded fry.

Cool. Good luck in the future with them.
