Im kind of upset about this, i kind of bought them for the red/black themed tank im doing, and because i thought they schooled. But i haven't seen them school once!

Oh well, they still look pretty good, is there any reasons why they might not be schooling?

Cheers

I have 11 Neon Tetras and they don't school much. Most of the time they are off by themselves. Sometimes 3 or more get together. The reason they don't school is because they feel comfortable in their environment. They only school when they are frightened.

I'm sure when you first put them in the tank, they schooled for a while, because they felt scared. After a few hours they started spreading out more.

As with Manix, my Cardinals Tetras school when they scared. If they're comfortable in their environment, they basically do their own things. Though they are often spoked by passing people, so I see them school a lot.

I'm not sure if this is right but I remember hearing somewhere that alot of tetras are actually shoaling fish...that is they like to be close enought to each other to keep an eye on their mates but they don't actually school in a tight bunch...

well tetras don't particularly like bright lights, and they feel more secure with low lighting, dark gravel and plants.

oh well i probably have a perfect setup for the tetras. Low light, normal gravel and planted

I wish they schooled for fun once and while, so i could have a look.
