Hello everyone

I recently added 6 neon tetras to my 10G tank. How do I tell if which tetras are male and which are female. Just curious.

Plus I also have 2 young platies (about 7 months old) in this 10G as well. I wanted to add 2 more tetras, resulting in 8 neon tetras and 2 platies. Would that be overstocked?

Thanks for your input!

I think females are larger, plumper-looking than males. The neon blue line also looks bent in females.

I don't think adding two more neons would overstock your tank. Are your platies same sex? If not, they'd do best at a minimum ratio of 1M/2F to keep the stress down on the females.

Hi

Thanks!

So far, both my platies look like females. I am not sure at what age they tend to show their true sex. But if it's by now... then they are definatley both female. lol

You'd be at your limit if you put in the extra two tetras.. but i don't see a problem if you do it slowly and wait a while before you put the others in.

Lol.

I've heard that the blue stripe test mentioned above is fairly accurate.
