ur best bet would to be to go with a 75g. tank for up to 4 red bellies. a 55g. will do for up to 3 piranha. buy them as young as possible. juvi. piranha have an extremely healthy growth rate. theyll grow from the size of a nickel to 6in. in about 6mths. when young feed them on a diet of mysis and brine shrimp. OCCASIONAL feeders will be good to. tho, they shouldnt be the main staple of ur piranhas diet. when young try to feed them at least 3 times a week. most cases of cannibalism occur in piranha smaller than 3in. as they get a lil bigger, say 2in. or so u can begin feeding them whole foods on a regular basis. raw shrimp, scallops, WHITE meat fishes such as cod and tilapia(no pink or red meat fishes of any kind. they contain far to much fat and oil which will funk up ur tank with a quickness), n earthworms. DO NOT FEED THEM any poultry or mammal meat(e.g. beef or pork) like the pink n red meat fishes these contain an enormous amount of fat and oil(to much for piranha anyway) plus they almost always contain some form of growth hormones which cant be good for ur piranha. once ur piranha are near 4in. u can slowly cut down their feedings to twice a week, and once they are past 6in. once a week will suffice. i always fed twice a week myself tho. any other questions, just pm me.

i have 3 red bellies in a 60 gallon, and they are fun, but still like to nibble on eachother.. they are about oh.. say top to bottom about 3 inches....(dorsal to anal fin)
I feed mine the tetra min sticks, the ones that are called the live food alternative, they occasionally get an endler to snack on and hunt, and i feed them blood worms in a frozen state I feed mine every day once a day.. 2 times at most, just remember a varied diet!

72 gallon bowfront:Tanganyikan Lake set up
75 gallon: A. Baenschi trio,Cyanotilapia Afra Cobwe(4), copadichromis trewavase, protomelas sp. tangerine tiger(breeding pair)

NO, no matter what u do or precautions u take, piranha are piranha. plain and simple. a predator is always a predator. and piranha, unlike most aquatic predators, dont have to swallow their prey whole. which means they can tear into something much larger than themselves. in a small to medium school they are deadly to about 99% of the fish that can be kept in freshwater home aquaria. besides all this flake food doesnt carry enough protein for the piranha diet. the bloodworms are good but once they get a bit bigger u HAVE to move them to some larger whole foods such as the ones i mentioned in my previous post. sorry. if u cant or wont keep piranha in a species-only tank then this is not the fish for u. but if u can and are willing ull probably fall in love with them. as dumb as that may sound. good luck

-Tanya- yea, definitely keep a varied diet. having one main staple food is fine, but tossing something different in at least every other week is a good idea for all fish, but for some reason with predators its a must. im suprised u could get urs onto the tetramin sticks. in 7yrs of raising piranha i had no luck with any type of prepared foods. in my experiences, a varied HEALTHY diet is the best thing u can do for piranha. followed closely by 20% weekly water changes.
