I have never seen or heard of a "rhino tetra". Do you know anything about it, or have you seen a picture? Any information on this fish might help with the identification.

I have heard of a rhino fish, maybe you should check that out. They might be the same thing.

That photo looks suspiciously like the species of Glassfish that Shini posted about 18 months ago - as it grows older, the nuchal huump takes on the appearance of a lump of glass that's melted in a fire. It's certainly no Characin, because it has spiny dorsal rays! Not only that, but the separation between the spiny and soft dorsals, along with certain meristic characteristics and the translucency of the flesh, places it in the Ambassidae (formerly Centropomidae).

Yes, that picture is definitely a Humphead Glassfish, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it sold as a tetra. The "Rhino" name is new to me, though, they're always HGs around here.

PS, I actually had a dream that I found out what a Rhino tetra was - this lovely thing that looked like a Cardinal sans blue - but alas I woke up and realized that it wasn't real. Clearly I spend far, far too much time on FP, that I'm trying to find answers to people's posts in my sleep!

EDIT: OK, had another one. Now it's just creepy. Stay away from my subconscious, Rhino Tetra, whatever you are!

Molly!

Never seen rhino tetra either. Since I began working at my lfs I've noticed that there are wayyyy more common names for tetras than we know. For example...got in a shipment of Candy Cane Tetras last week.

Dear Ferretfanatic: What do these Candy Cane Tetras look like? (I'm especially intrigued because my own LFS recently got in a shipment of a unnamed just-discovered new Hyphessobrycon species that looks somewhat like Rosy Tetras, but has a horizontally striped dorsal fin that made ME think that an appropriate name for them might be "Candy Cane Tetras".)

Little mousling...I thought I was the only one to have weird fish dreams! I have a recurring dream where I visit this really cool fish shop, it always has amazing fish in it that don't exist, then I wake up all disappointed...:%)
