i plan to add a pelco. i thought an arowana would be o.k in the tank. will it make a difference in the arowana is large, where as the pirhanas are young, only 1 inch long *ish*

I've seen feeder goldfish rip Arowana fins to shreds; I don't think that speaks well for keeping them with Piranha.

Why are you trying so hard to find a compatible species when they're infinitely better alone?

i was reading and they said that other fishes can be kept with pirhana's. i know that the armur cats might be o.k, but i thought that an arowana would be ok to. but guessing not.

Don't try any other fish besides the piranhas. Plecos work some times but usually it ends up with a dead plec

theyll shred an arrowanna
yes it has been done but it lasted only 9 days
theyll either shred it kill it or force it to jump out or stress it to death
silver dollars can b kept with piranhas but they will b eaten eventually
ive tried plecos in my tanks n it has worked with 1 such fish for a time of 4 months after which it was eaten
i have 7 piranhas now n have yet to have found a lasting tank mate
however i used my tank that houses a 6.5" red belly to breed my black neons in
the adults n all fry were eventually killed when i left for a weekend
sorry to tell ya but in any tank suited for a home aquaria there is likely no fish compatible for long

but if u must try something
i suggest buck tooth tetras with large 10"+ piranhas in a shorter tank this mite work mite not

Firstly i advise you read that link. Echoing what the article says no fish is 100% safe with piranhas. Alot of people seem to have success with plecos. then again......

Plecos are fifty fifty. Some people have them in their tanks just fine, some people have them eaten the moment they hit the water.

sounds nasty doesn't it

As for silver dollars heres a extract from the article

FISH THAT WILL NOT SURVIVE

Medium sized peaceful fish - Any fish that is not significantly bigger than the piranhas that do not have any fighting ability whatsoever will get eaten eventually

I'd think silver dollars come under this category. Plus i remebr you saying you were starting with a 75g. If you aren't upgrading to a considerably larger tank in the near future 2 things will happen
1. Growth will be stunted
2. Silver dollars will be shredded due to terretorial pirahnhas. And possibly cannabalism on the pirahnas behalf.

Arrowanas are a no go. As some people have commmented they will either die of stress or just when the piranhas decide they want a snack. From personal experiences i would like to forget even if the piranha is 2" and x fish is 10" they will still have a go.

I saw a picture somewhere of a 1 1/2" red bellie with a 8" feeder goldfish in his mouth. (grasping by the tail). I'll try and find it and posyt the link. Then maybe you will think twice before you put anything without a 9mm hand gun in a piranha tank.

on the upside - rapheal catfish are the most popular survivors. heres a link to a thread i posted.

They arent labbeled as "the most voracious freshwater fish known to man" for nothing

go with the rapheals.

I kept piranhas for a year or so and they ate everything i tried to mix with them, you might be able to pull off a red bellied pacu...for a while but that will get eaten too.
