I was just wondering, a question of knowledge, besides swim bladder syndrom & genetics; is there any other disease(bateria etc.) that would cause a fish to go upside down?

bloat, where the fluid inside the fish was lighter than the surrounding awater, or where the fluid was pushing on the swimbladder.

Again, constipation can cause it if the blockage is such that it pushes on the swimbladder too.

Sometimes if a fish eats too much flake food too fast that hasn't been soaked, it will expand in their stomachs and float 'em to the top. More often this is noticed and referred to as Helicopter swimming as they ususally don't go upside down from it, but i've seen some that do it, and return to regular swimming within the hour.

I see.... the reason y I ask this question is the at one of my lfs, there is this sick goldfish. It is upside down, floating, but part of it's stomach is above water lvl. Is this an advance case of swim bladder disease?

Also the area that is above water (exposed to air) has these nasty red bumbs. They look slimy on the skin. Dosen't look like fungus. Is this because it is exposed to the air? And what kind of disease is that? I have never saw this kinda of disease.

Any idea?

It is probably a type of infection. Fish skin isn't meant to be out of the water Dries up and cracks

If the fish is bobbing like a cork and can only float on one side, i'd take a punt that there is something specific to that side of the fish that is much lighter.

Unsure if fish can get an air pocket or something, but it would sound like something along those lines.

If you plan on rescuing the fish, it may or may not recover. You can make life easier by constructing a lid contraption that sits just below the surface of the water so that it physically stops the fish from coming above the water.
it cannot go all the wy across the surface, as the fish would probably suffocate, but partway with heavy agitation should be an OK way to go.

If there is a small chance that the fish can be healed i'll try to talk the lfs guy to give me da fish and try to help it. The lfs guy isn't doing much to help the fish anywayz. I've seen that store alwayz have fish sick. Most of them don't make it because they don't really do a good job.

I remember the last time my gf and I went to that store. The goldfishes were getting ick and we told the lf guy and he told me that is how they are. The very next day we got there the fishes were filled with white spots. They meded the tank but most didn't make it...

Well I'm gonna go try get the fish. In the mean time some ideas on what i can do for. The meds, procdures etc. I'll get some pics up when i get the fish.

Thx

im not sure about meds, but i heard on another site, that someone tied a semi heavy weight to the fish, the knot was at the stomach, and it flipped the fish over, and it lived like that im not sure if it was a year or 2, it was a swimbladder dissorder if i remember right, but she said the fish started acting like normal, swimming up for food, all around the tank, the weight was heavy enough to flip th fish, but not enough to weight it down completely immobile
