Okay, I'm having a problem with my trinidad plec in my 75.

Other tankmates include
1 gold nugget plec
2 bristlenose
6 glasscats
2 angels

This guy's been through everything--from the time when my aunt overfed the tank, resulting in a massive dieout, when the electric feeder became jammed during a month long trip, etc. So I'm rightfully worried about his health. My father got him about 15 years ago for an algae problem (he stopped grazing on the stuff long ago), so he's been alive longer than I've been an aquarist. Lately, he's become skinny and discolored, and his fins are ragged. I only began to notice about a week ago, and now he's stopped feeding entirely. I don't think he's gonna make it through the night. Is this age at work or some illness? I read up on it, and apparently, plecs can live a good deal longer than this, plus, he was only around 13 inches long, not nearly his maximum size.

Consider your Plecostomus (folded mouth) to be at the end of the road...

To quote: "Old fish never die, they just fade away" and that's exactly what yours is doing.

I would argue the fish's age. Most tank tropicals just don't make it that long.

The average size would be up to ten inches. I've never seen them much over that unless kept in super large tanks.

Once a fish stops eating there's really not much you can do except to say goodbye. Euthanasia would be an option to prevent a slow, suffering death.

..Well at that age hes lived a hell of a life..for a fishy..your lucky.

Not sure really other than try different foods, hopeflly someone might come along and elaborate more on the diet as Im not to sure what else they eat other than the basics.

It could be a parisite, but I think its old age like you have already guessed..
