![]() | Black Moor - Eyeball completely out of socket |
robs007![]() Small Fry Posts: 1 Votes: 0 Registered: 19-Aug-2005 ![]() ![]() | Hiya - My first time on this forum so hope I've posted in the right place. I've had a black moor and another fantail goldfish for about 4 years. They both seem very happy, eat well and are always buzzing around, but the Moor's eye is really concerning me. Since he was tiny he has had a cloudy eye which I have never been able to fix, but over the past 3 or 4 month sit has completely come out of socket and wobbles around when he swims. I really don't want to interfere too much as he doesn't seem too bothered by it, but surely it must be sore. I'm also pretty sure it will fall out soon - (pretty grim I know!). Any advise on how I should be handling the situation would be greatly appreciated? (I'm not sure that water qualtiy and ph etc is worth mentioning, as the other fish is fine.) |

Unfortunately, I can't help specifically, but I'm sure someone will come along soon and need the parameters of the tank and the tank size before they can help! Sam |

I had a fish that lost an eye due to a fight. He was alright until the other fish began to attack him because he was weak, and unfortunately i had euthanised him. Watch your fish and see how he goes, if he starts to get attack you might have to do the same. I agree that the eye will come off all together, or perhaps your other fish might bite it off. But as to why, I am kinda stumped. You said the eye has been cloudy since you got him over 4 years ago and over the past 3 - 4 months it has become wobbly and started to come out. So that naturally rules out a fight and because of the length of time, it also rules out serious diseases. And, your other fish in the tank are healthy and happy, they would have shown symptons and or passed on without treatment. Your fish has no other marks on his body? You said he has a good appetite? What is your water quality, temp etc? You said nothing seems to work in fixing the eye, what have you tried?? A fish with a cloudy eye could indicate a parasite. But i couldn't see this for four years without your other fish being affected and/dying, and without you noticing. But just in case check your tank for parasites. If not, the fish could have a bacterial infection. So you need to check your water quality, temp etc. But for four years....I don't think that would be it. So I am thinking it isn't anything to serious. Or depending on the treatments you have been doing, it might have kept the disease at bay but it keeps re-infecting. Anyway, I am stumped, but maybe this might get some others talking, or someone might have experienced the same problem. Check out this site it might be of help. http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/fish_diseases/eyes.html |
