When I checked the tank this morning I found one of my young male Boesmani Rainbows in some distress. He was swimming near the surface upside down in a circe, his body was arched to the side.

This fish was in perfect health last night, eating well very active and colorful as usual. All other fish in tank in perfect health.

I'm suspecting Swim Bladder problems, although doesn't fit the usual swimming at 45 degree sympom.

Constipation I suppose could be a factor, but these fish get a varied diet and regular feedings of peas (which they relish) 2 or 3 times a week, actually they tucked into some 2 nights ago.

Tank well maintained.Heavily planted and 25% water change weekly
Readings I took this morning.
PH 6.8
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0

One possibility: Last night at ights out I heard a plop in the tank and I looked up to see one of the Boesmani (not sure if this one)looking a bit stunned. What I think happened , from what I heard and where the fish were positioned, is that a Boesmani jumped and may have smacked into the glass tank suport bar that runs across the middle of the tank.Is it possible he did some bad damage to himself ?
Nitrates 10ppm.

You could be right there. He could have broken his back? Is his tail moving at all?

Yes, his tail is moving. But his body is arched. Best way I can describe it is he's like a dog chasing his tail - upside down

Stunning fish, hate to lose him. Haven't had any problems in this tank for a while.

Ok, Think I've got this figured. I isolated the fish this morning and when I got home at lunch I had a look to see how he was doing. No change and then I saw it - one of those %$#@$%%$ Callamanus worms sticking out. I hate those little #$%^&#@*.

Reckon either a bad infestation is pressing against the bladder, or they are causing constipation again leading to bladder problems.

I've dosed with Levamisole to see if I can get rid of them. But, suspect if they've already caused this the fish may have too much internal damage.

Well, unfortunately he didn't make it. He never managed to make it from an upside down position. Found a couple of dead worms there too, at least I got those little @##*&%$'s.
I'll prepare some medicated food with the Levamisole and feed the other fish with this for a few days a precaution.]:|]:|

Whenever a fish begins to have trouble swimming, it's not going to make it no matter what you try.

Sorry about your loss.

So far all look the picture of health. But appearances don't count for much when it comes to Callamanus.Levamisole is pretty mild so a prophylactic dose with the food won't be too bad.

Sorry realise I keep mis-spelling; should be Camallanus.
