I bought a Bristlenose Pleco last week. I have noticed that his dark color seems to be fading. When I came home for my lunch break a was alarmed to find that he has lost almost all of his color and is almost white. What is wrong with him, and how do I make him better?

1st of all, do a water test and post your results, without knowing this it is very hard for anyone to advise you.
also did you acclimatise him properly and could your water be much different to the water he came from?
and how long hashe been in the tank?
it could be stress related from the move but it could be more than that, hopefully with more information someone will be able to advise you more.

I will do some water testing tonight. He has been in the tank for just over a week.

What color is your gravel as well? Plecs are well-known for developing washed-out colors on white or light-colored gravel.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Actually it is funny that you say that, I was thinking the same thing. I just wasn’t sure if that could be the case. I noticed that the tank they had him in in the store had black gravel, and our tank has light colored sand. He does seem to be close to matching the color of the sand. His activity level is still normal, he isn’t acting sick or stressed out. I am hoping that this is all there is to it. I wasn’t able to test my water as my testing kit is at my mother-in-laws house, but the tank has been set up for a while and all my other fish are just fine.
