Hello again,
I recently have had a bad case of
Camallanus worms in my 10g tank (darn
small tanks with their problems)
and have receieved the medicine from Big Als on
Friday of Last week.
I got the Jungle Antiparisite food - which
contains Levamisole, Metrinidazole, and Prazinquental.
I started feeding it immediately, and have just completed day 3 of feeding exclusively the medicated feed.
I also got a liquid parasite treatment called "Prazi-Pro",
which contains Prazinquental. I also started treatment of that, which calls for 1/2 a teaspoon to 10g, and then wait a minimum of 5 days, do a large water change, and repeat if needed.
I am wondering how long do you think it will take to kill these worms?
Should I repeat treatment of the Prazi Pro to be sure?
The medicated food says to feed for 3-4 days, exclusively, 2 times a day, then repeat every week for 4 weeks.
Should I follow these instructions, or should I feed until the worms are gone?
I hope this works.
I have lost 2 guppies now, 1 of my hasbrosus corys, and my paradise fish is heavily infested, though shows no signs of discomfort or sickness otherwise.
Thanks.

I have battled these parasites several times, and I have not found any medication that worked. I even tried heavy-duty horse wormer with no success.

Eventually I just decided to euthanize any fish that showed signs of the worms, because as long as there are affected fish in the tank, the worms will spread. It was hard at the time, but I am glad I made that decision; I have been Camallanus-free for about two years now. Euthanizing the fish was not nearly as bad as letting them slowly waste away and suffer because of the worms (and as someone who has been battling the worms, I'm sure you know how hard that is to watch). I do not buy fish from the place where I got the affected fish from.

I wish you luck if you decide to keep treating your fish, but you should seriously consider destroying the affected fish to get rid of the problem once and for all.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Cory,
yes, I am aware of the difficulty in
treating these worms.
I however, do not want to resort to euthanasia.
Some of these fish I could not stand to lose,
like my rubbernose pleco, or my paradise fish,
or my corys.
I had it once before in just guppies and did euthanize them all to get rid of it.
I am going to try this treatment, and hope it works.
Toirtris (sp?) recommended these meds as successful,
so hopefully they will work.
So far, I havent noticed any improvement, but it may
take time.
Also, seeings I just bought the meds, I may as well use
them to try and cure this.

If all else fails, try ivermectin, If it doesnt kill the fish it will certainly cure it. Worth a shot if euthanasia is your only other option.Since its skin absorbable , you cant really miss. The challenge is not killing the fish with it.
