Can Goldfish Get Pop-Eye? | |
Cichlid Kid Fish Addict Posts: 553 Kudos: 285 Votes: 34 Registered: 22-May-2004 | Can Goldfish get pop-eye,i think mine may be in the earlier stages, though no "popping" has occured yet the top portion above his eye is a whitish color and looks washed out.Could this be from the move to his new tank or from stress. Tank Paremeters are all normal. |

Pop eye is a noted specific condition, but the actual enlarging and bulging of an eye can be caused by a number of factors including bacterial infection, parasite infestation, injury, and osmotic issues or renal failure. Just how you tell which one precisely is causing it is much more difficult. I wouldnt associate pop-eye with stress per se,but I suppose it could me a contributory factor if it leads to immuno surpression.Reasons for it happening after a move are likely to be to do with the water chemistry, even if its only a change of conditions rather than actually moving to toxic conditions. A change of water hardness could be a prime reason, ph , and kh are related, and a new tank would probably be slightly less acidic, due to slightly less decaying organic matter. The fish may notice the difference. |
