Corie with no tail | |
Two Tanks Big Fish Posts: 449 Kudos: 328 Votes: 13 Registered: 02-Jun-2003 | I was horrified to find that one of my three albino cories no longer has a tail. It is in a ten gallon with two other smallish albino cories and one male betta. A week ago, I had another outbreak of trematoes/nematoes, which I exterminated with some ParasiteClear. I will most likey have to euthanize the cory - looks really bad. What could have caused this? |

fishsage Hobbyist Tank You Daddy. Posts: 103 Kudos: 53 Votes: 16 Registered: 08-Dec-2007 | Is the Cory in distress? I had a Leopard Danio that lost his tail to an overly inquisitive Rainbowfish.. I put the Danios in a tank by themselves, administered Mela/Pima fix and now you can't even tell it was gone! I would bet that the male Betta had something to do with it. 55G -5x Bosemani, 3x Emerald Cory,3x Red Rainbow, 3x Turquoise Rainbow. 20G-Empty. 10G -4x Danio 3x Cory Fry 1 Gold Mystery Snail. 10G- 1x CAE, 2x Tetra 1x ADF |

Joe Potato Fish Addict Kind of a Big Deal Posts: 869 Votes: 309 Registered: 09-Jan-2001 | If there is any caudal fin remaining, he has a good chance of regrowing it if you can prevent infection. I agree with fishsage -- isolate and Melafix and Pimafix (the first time I have ever suggested that! ). I also agree that the betta probably didn't do it. They're really not equipped to do any serious damage to fish, especially a cory. It sounds like it could be a very quick case of fin rot. Does the stump look bloody or grey at all? |

Two Tanks Big Fish Posts: 449 Kudos: 328 Votes: 13 Registered: 02-Jun-2003 | The cory died shortly after posting the message. His tail was completely gone, poor thing. I don't think the betta had anything to do with it - he is very peaceful. The two remaining cories and the betta are doing fine, so it must have been an infection from the creepies that I have since exterminated - some sort of parasite that I have seen once before (it killed all my fish the first time). The sick cory could have brought in the trematode - one came from a different LFS. Thank you for your replys. |
