I had kept several angels in my 65g. One large adult and several "teenagers." Now the teenagers are adults and I had to give several back to LFS due to fighting. I kept the first adult and two teenagers.

Now, due to a "pairing" the two who are a couple are picking on my golden veil angel. They were pecking and fighting incessantly. I recently put her in my 10g quarantine tank. A few days ago I put in three Serpae Tetras. WIth the addition of the tetras, she seems at home, and most of all, at peace. Her fins are growing back nicely and she seems to be "blooming" and doing great with her new "friends," the Serpaes.

Is it cruel to keep her in there for now? I don't want to give her back to LFS, but both my large tanks have established ANgel couples.

I am finding difficulty in locating a divider for a 65g tall hex.

What say you?

Thanks

To be perfectly honest, I think the angel should be out of the 10 gallon as soon as possible. It would be fine for a temp. fix, but as a semi-long term thing, I think it would be bad.

To per this into human perspective (which I try not to with fish, but this case seems to be fine), how would you feel sleeping in a baby crib?

Anyway, my thought is, get your angel into a good sized tank ASAP. Best of luck for your fish.

As for the divider, I think something like that is no choice other than a DIY tank divider.

rasboramary,

For the time being, if she seems happy and healthy then the 10G will do. But it certainly should be only a temporary solution.

Given that you don’t want to return her to the LFS, this sounds like a good reason why you need another tank .

Any suggestions for a DYI tank divider?

I have been planning a 125g for quite some time, just not yet. It will be a few months. I really don't want to give her up, she is very beautiful. But maybe I am being selfish too.

What bothers me is that at LFS she'll be in a 10 to 20g also. And with about 20 tankmates!!!!!

You know what....
What if you got her a mate? Then you could introduce the mated pair into the 65 gallon. 65 gallons is more than enough space for 4 angelfish (unless of course, you have alot of other fish...). The two pairs will get along much better than one pair and one single.

I wondered about that! Should I assume that any male will "hitch up" with her? That's my fear. Actually, if I introduced a male and they got along, I'd love to put that pair with my existing pair in the 72g bowfront. Is it proven that two established pairs can cohabitate peacefully

I don't think that two fish will just hitch up. You might want to buy a whole buntch of boys and have your own version of the bachlorete. Otherwise, you could try buying what looks like an alpha male. Peer pressure from the two mated angels might also force the two to pair up to protect themselves.

Now, I'm not saying you can definitely have two pairs. This would depend on what else you're stocking with. For instance, if you had no fish but angels, you could probably have 3 pairs! But with other fish, even two might be pushing it.

Please post back with your stocking list.

Well, for now, I bought her an extra tall 20g. Almost $400.00 for complete set up. Now, if that isn't love I don't know what is

I think she'll be fine in there with her three Serpae Tetra tankmates from the 10g. No other fish and the tank is very tall. It's a quick fix, but will have to work for now.

I tried mixing and matching Angels in the past and it always seems a pair gets established and they wreck havoc for everyone else.

We'll see how it goes:%)

Thank you. I hate to send a fish back to LFS if I can prevent it. She is a beauty and worth the money to keep her happy. The thought of her being with who knows how many other fish in a crappy cramped tank with ammonia water made me sick. She's worth the strain on the wallet And, I might add, she seems very VERY happy in her new digs.
