Hi

I have two sick clown loaches. They seem to have the mysterious "thinning" problem. One is very very thin and I was wondering when or if I should make the decision to euthanase. He idles vertically at the side of the tank and is terribly thin. I'm sure he's not enjoying life.

Thanks

bkaryn ,
Sorry to hear you're faced with this decision, it's a hard one I know!

What have you tried for the clownloach so far? You dont have your actives listed so I couldnt take a peek :%).

If it comes to it, there's a [link=FAQ on euthaniza]http://www.fishprofiles.net/faq/begin-longterm.asp#death" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link].

Hopefully someone will have some ideas for you that will save the euthanization.

Treat the tank with metronidazole or something similar to that meant for internal parasites, especially flagellates like hexamita. It's very likely a parasitic infection. I'm not sure where you can get those meds locally, you may need to check with a vet. It might be too late for the loach, but I would try treatment first. If there is no improvement after a few days, I would euthanize with clove oil. Treat the whole tank anyway, you'll want to treat the other fish as well.

If you need help with locating medication, send me a PM.

Thanks everyone

One of the loaches died over the weekend, the other is hanging in there. I will locate the medicine suggested and treat my whole tank. Seems odd that I have two non sick loaches and one of them is a healthy and fat! 5 inches
