Euthansia... | |
weeble Small Fry Posts: 12 Kudos: 4 Votes: 0 Registered: 15-May-2006 | Well, we all occasionally get a dodgy fish in a batch, and I have one (swim bladder or TB) which needs disposing. My partner won't let me do the usual thing of banging it on the head (softy that she is), but I read somewhere on here that you can put them in a solution which effectively puts them to sleep (don't think it was an aneasthetic!) and then dispose of them. Any ideas what the solution is? |

Knocks them flat out. Just put some tankwater in a container, about 10 drops for a couple of litres and whisk it up. Drop the fish in and they generally pass out in about a minute. |

That's really the idea: quick and painless. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

JQW Fish Addict Posts: 869 Kudos: 758 Registered: 09-Apr-2003 | How do we know that alcohol doesn't cause any pain to the fish? Um......the alcohol might have just paralised the fish's muscle and it's probably hurting just that you can't see. How about a blender Puree, then freeze it the you can use as frozen food. bayoubuddy Fingerling Posts: 32 Kudos: 22 Registered: 16-Jun-2004 | Bucket of ice water. Works in about 10 seconds. Just put a little water in it and a tray of ice cubes. It works the same way for people that eat lobster but think its inhumane to just cook them, so they put them in the freezer first so they "go to sleep". But yeah, Ice Water Why anyone would waste liquor is beyond me. |

I would never freeze a fish, after hearing from peoples near death experiences with freezing, and how painful and horrifying it is. I dont care if fish are coldblooded. Freezings not the way Id want to go, nor my animals. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

This would kill it and it wouldn't know it's dying... the feeder fish thing is another good choice. Alcohol doesn't seem like something that would work, though I'm no chemist. The best solution would be to just give it a whack on the head and wait to tell your partner what your did until all is said and done. |

One hit, the head is severed from the body, the spinal cord is smashed, the fish is no longer alive. No suffering, no pain. Yeah, it's not nice, it's not pleasant. I cry afterwards. But I know it's painless, I know the fish didnt suffer, and that's the very best thing I can do for them.` ------------------------------------------------- I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions |
