I just lost my female Convict. I have had her for almost 4 years. This really sucks. I liked that fish a lot! I have no idea of what took her out. She looked a little sad the past couple of days but when I went over to the tank she perked up a bit. Someone in the tank... I think my Rainbow shark may have been picking on her. From a few weeks ago her tail fin was riped but that was getting better. This morning she was gone....no white spots or fungus or anything the eye could see.

All the other fish in this tank look great...
This is the first fish that I have lost in my 55 since I set it up over a year ago.

Did she look off balance at all? Did she have heavy breathing? Any rubbing against the rocks? These all could indicate possible problems. Sorry to hear about your con. I keep them myself and know first hand what its like to lose them.

Maybe a little off balance and slightly heavy breathing right before she died. Before that she just kind of seemed down. She wasn't her normal perky self. Anything people could come up with would be great. Thanks!

That sounds like a resperitory problem. I doubt its something really bad like tuberculosis because that would have spread. Did she have and inflamation around the gills? Gill rot could be a possible cause.

How long ago did the con die? if its over a week and your other fish are fine I wouldn't be too worried. Just in case keep treating it with pimafix for three or four days. Good Luck.

I wouldn't worry about your other fish. They should have already shown signs of problems if they had any. Sorry again about your con.

I am sorry to hear about your Con. I lost my favourite female con a few weeks ago, and I think my Salvinis killed it

I know what it is like to lose one, I have a male and a female in my tank.

So I think I am going to go on a search for a new girl or two? I was thinking of getting pinks to go with my black male. What do you guys think? My male female had only breed once and that was almost two years ago now.

I mix pink and black cons all the time. The offspring will be the same as if two blacks bred. Maybe check out a calico con. Though they are rare they can be found on line and at some specialty fish stores.

If I wanted to get a mix of offspring then I would want a Pink male and a black female? So being I have a pink female and black male I will have black babys?

Has anyone heard of a Platinum Convict. I saw them on another form a while back. They were pretty sweet looking.

if you have one pink and one black con you should get about 30% pink fry and the other 70% black.

platinum cons are a hybrid cross of a honduran red point and pink convict. there are also hybrid cross of honduran red point and regular cons sold as "blue cons".
