Could you give us information about your tank? Size, filtration etc. Also if you can have your water tested and post the results. It might be a water quality issue.

Can you tell we are new only had the tank and fish for 4 months. We are very atached to our fish. Every time I look in the 10 gal and see my sick angle and swordtail I cry swortail is wilma and the angel is abut. Thanks for the help and hope some one can tell me what is wrong

Do you have a pet store nearby? Most places will check your water for free if you take them a sample. How often are you doing water changes? How often do you feed? In my experience most illness is caused due to poor water quality, it can be a bit of a challenge when you're new. There are tons of people on here that are far more knowledgeable than me, but that's my first suggestion. Have the water tested.

Also, I'm not sure how big your angels are right now, but you will eventually have too many fish for a 55 gallon. Are they still pretty small??

You should really be doing water changes on a weekly basis. I do about a 20-25% change every week. Some people might tell you more. It you're trying live plants you'll probably be able to do the water changes a little less frequently once they get established.

You won't be able to keep 8 full grown angels in a 55 gallon tank. You might consider taking some of them back to the store before you get too attached. A good rule of thumb when you're starting out is to use the inch per gallon rule. One inch of fish (at full grown size) to one gallon of water. As you become more experienced this rule can be stretched a litte. However, full grown angels are about 6 inches, so you already have 48 inches of fish and that doesn't include your others. Some people might argue with me but I personally think that many angels will need more space.

Hi Edith,
I just wanted to let you know that your Silver
Mono wont work in your tank.
These are brackish water fish, that eventually
require full salt water.
You could take it back in exchange for
4 more tetras.
Tetras should be kept in groups of 6 or more.

Some info on Monos for your:

Oh right on.
Just another mention,
tetras should be kept in groups of 6,
so consider getting 5 more buenos aires,
if you only have one.
I love those tetras! I myself have 5 (due to the loss
of 3, due to old age),
with plans to get 5 more sometime this month.
Arent they gorgeous!

Hi So_Very_Sneaky I to love those tetras but here they are hard to find I was lucky to have gotten her. It was the only one left. I would love to get more but again our tank is well stocked now with our angels and swordtails then the candy tetra and our red he just such a funny one he runs all the time. He tries to play with the angels lol but they don't think being run around is funny. But they all get along.

You probably have a Petcetera near you.
They always have Buenos Aires Tetras.
Candy tetras are white skirt tetras that have
been dyed to be the "candy" colors you see.
Heres a link about dyeing fish.

I'm not sure So_Very_Sneaky but I haven't heard of that pet place in Ottawa. But I really don't want to over crowd the tank any more not till I get our other two tanks we are getting a 120 gal and going in to salt water but not till we learn more about it lol It is going to run us in the thousands of dollars we don't buy second hand you never no what you get with the tank. If the persons fish were sick or if leeks.

I really dont think your tank is overstocked.
Besides, what should be most important is providing
the right situation and life for the fish you have.
For schooling fish, this means their mental and physical health depends on having a certain number of individuals.
Keeping less than adequate numbers of these fish can make them nervous, unsocial, and skittish.
Schooling fish should always be kept in schools.
If youre unwilling to provide them with what they need,
perhaps you can return them to the pet store in exchange
for a fish that doesnt need a school.
