I just found out with help from member Callatya that my gold fish has gas bubble disease, would any one know how to cure it? I looked on google but none of the sites seemed to be able to help.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Claire

Welcome to FP...

A Gas Bubble Disease?

Is this related to airbladder problems? Could you connect this post to the other post so that we can see what is going on there, it would help to have that background to answer the questions...

Otherwise I would suggest feeding some mushed greenpeas, they might help...

Thats the link to my post about my goldfish. I looked it up on google as I said and the pictures that I found looked just like what my fan tail has got. I just had a look and it said on one of the sites that it may be to do with my power head putting streams of air into the tank and the saturation is too high. Im going to go out and get another air pump tomorrow and get a air stone in there in stead and see how that goes.
Is there any other ways that anyone knows how to get rid of the lump on his fin or will it just go away??

Thanks

I'm thinking, now that you mentioned it if you get rid of the powerhead, and I'd go with a UGF, just make sure you do thorough cleanings on it...and run some really good pumps on it, with the long air stones you should be fine...and I suspect that if you leave the lump alone it should go away with do time...best of luck, heidi

I have got rid of the power head and I have a air stone and undergravel filter going. I was just wondering if there was any meds I could use at all on his lump to start the healing process a bit faster, or should I just wait for it to go?

Ah, gas-bubble disease: I just lost three cories to this.

There aren't any real meds that you can use to make it go away. The only thing that I thought of was to use distilled water to keep one cory in a hospital tank, because that's guaranteed not to be pressurized with gases (eg. chlorine, nitrogen, all that good stuff they have in tap water), though at that point my cory was too far gone to be saved. However, if you can lower the gas saturation level of the tank, that's just as good. Look in your tank for tiny gas bubbles. That's what you want to get rid of.

Healing from Gas-Bubble Disease either way is going to be a long and difficult process. Just be careful not to startle your buddy in any way. If the bubble pops from sudden movement, he could get infected, and if it suddenly dislodges, it could flow to his heart or brain and kill him.
