Well I had my goldfish for a few months now. He was originally in a 10 gallon tank, I moved him to a 25 gallon a couple months ago after laerning goldfish need more room. He loved it in there, swam around all over and hid in the plants and seemed so healthy. The last day or two he stopped swimming so much and just kind of hung out in one spot. This morning I found him dead Any ideas why? 10% of the water was changed a couple weeks ago and I tested it yesterday - everything was normal.

Made a very depressing start to my day...

thelifeofriley,

Sorry to hear that, it is always hard to loose one of your fishies.

In order to help you:

Do you know what kind of goldfish it was and how old he might have been?
Was he alone in the tank (if not 10% water change weeks ago might not have been enough)?
What water conditions did you test yesterday and what were the results?
Was he eating until yesterday?

Sorry again,

Ingo

I have no idea how old he was, but the petstore said he was a small tailfin goldfish. He had calico colors, very very beautiful.

He was alone in the tank, I was going to get another fish friend for him but I heard 25 gallons is good for one goldfish and he seemed very happy in there.

He was eating, not as much as usual though.

I got so attached to him too

Testing is good but you must change each week not just when the paramaters indicate in your tests.

Sorry your little friend got sick & didn't make it.

What were you feeding him? Maybe he needed more veggies (ie peas popped from their skins)

malnutrition should have killed him much sooner, right?

maybe he got too old, maybe he wasn't that strong internally (some of those fish have physical defects).

i wouldn't mind for the changes. it's pretty hard to kill a fish with nitrate (if at all possible), and there was plenty of space for him there.

I am not saying it was malnutrition but a diet with veggies is beneficial. some fish sit on the gravel and look a bit unwell but must be constipated because once they get some peas they do a good pooh and are much improved.

Never fed him veggies. Didn't know I could. I'll try that with the next fish.

I think may be the fact our water comes from a well. I've redone the fish tank with water from the mountain. It's been running for a day and I did some tests and everything seems to be doing good. I also got a gravel cleaner (that goes underneith) and an air pump.

Thanks for your help. Just wish my Mr. Bumpy was still here I loved that fish.
