Oh my God! My stupid mother in law is staying with us and she just sprayed fly killer in the room right next to one of my aquariums. It is something called KONK. It kills flying insects. She said there were flies on the wall. SHe sprayed it about 10 feet away from the aquarium. I was in the other room and a smelled something. I came out to see her standing there with the container. I've covered the aquarium. I'd say about 4 or 5 mintues passed between the spraying and my covering it. I also unplugged the filter. Is this a smart thing to do? What else can I do to minimize their exposure. Are they likely to die??? THis is horrible.

I don't think that they'll die. Why did you switch off the filter?.

I switched off the filter and the air pump and I covered the tank with a thick blanket. I really hope they don't die. I am so furious. I yelled at her. ]:|

Without the filter & the pump working, you're not going to have any water movement. I think you've done this to eliminate any oxegen in the water. I would leave it for a few minutes & then start the swith them on again, but keep the cover closed.

Hi, thanks, yep I figured if I switched everything off it was less likely that the pesticide would get sucked in there. I've actually switched everything back on now. I figure everything has dissipated from the air by now (or however you spell that). I've left the blanket over the tank though. I was just panicking I think. I hope everything is okay. I swear if any one of those fish dies that woman is going to pay to replace it. Can you tell I'm not too fond of her? Thanks for your advice.
