ok in my dwarf puffer tank i just found one of them stuck to the filter. he looked dead so i tried to scoop him up with a net but then he swam a few inches and fell to the bottom of the tank. He is NOT looking good. I don't know how this happened. the filter is really weak which leads me to believe he was injured by something else first maybe another puffer.

anyways hes really beat up looking and isnt moving at all.

my question is... should I let him live and see if he makes it... It doesnt look that way...

or should I try and euthanize him and if i do what is the best way to do it?

If you have a breeding net, or something similar, or even better a hospital tank set up you can try placing him in there. My experience with fish that are @that stage where you think they're dead and they only seem to pop back into life once you try and net them out has been to always euthanize. I know that sounds a bit cruel, but if I have no clue what's wrong with them and they're already that far advanced my opinion is it's better to put them out of their misery than to stress over how much more harm you'll do with medicatiions.

should I try and euthanize him and if i do what is the best way to do it?

If you do decide to euthanize, a sharp blow to the fishes skull, or actually cutting the spinal cord is the fastest, most painless, cheapest way to do it.
Whatever you do decided to to, don't go with freezing, straight flushing, or using the garbage disposal. They're all very painful ways for the fish to die.

Good luck .
