Hello all,
My betta has white on his tail, It is not normally there and is not in tufts, I will try to get a picture.
He is about 5 months old, and the only other illness he has had is Popeye which we sorted out.
He isnt eating but he is swimming arouund like he normally does.
I have just added some general medicine too the tank.

IO have no idea what level nitrates and ammonia there is but I can guess its good because I have a red clawed crab, 3 amano shrimps and 3 polka dot lloaches in there and they are all fine. ( they are all verry sensitive to Nitrites)

My PH is slightly alkali.
It is a 25 gal planted tank. I will get pictures in a bit.

is it fungus on the tail, or white dots like ich.

my guess would be fungus. not sure though

i would take him out, and put in a hosptiol tank around 5 gallons. heat it to about 86 *F and try betta max, with a sponge filter. and alittle salt.

it doesn't quite look necrotic to me, but it does look serious. I have only pulled a few out of it, and very rately did they last very long after until they relapsed. If you want to try, I used really strong antibacterial or antibiotics, i'd go that path and not stop, as that stuff is vicious.
To be honest though, I do think that the likelyhood of stopping it, if it is what I think it is, is pretty slim.

I went to the store this morning to get some treatment. This morning there were little tufts too, so I think there was fungus aswell although his tail really didnt look like it had fungus. My last betta died of something similar (view the post here http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/The%20Hospital/63854.html?03358576#) except he didnt have fungus aswell and He had it allover his face and in his eyes, he was fine in the morning at about 12 O clock i noticed it at 2 he was dead.)
This also went through really quick
One of my female bettas has fungus now, and they both seem a bit ill (down at the bottom)
So the store gave me the disease when I bought 3 baloon mollies from them, it said on the tank 'may need some salt' I asked the woman if they were being kept in a brackish tank and she went and got help. the man was chatting up this woman so i butted in and asked him and he said erm I think theyre in fresh, so when I was walking away I heared the woman say 'Can you explain to me what he was on about' I dont think the man knew wither because he just said 'I'll tell you later'
anyway only one baloon molly is left now and is looking really healthy.
I'm wondering what to put in the fighters place...

yea, a quaritine tank would be best, that way illness wont spread to exsiting fish.

again i am not sure about this, but from what i have gone though, as well as others, it is very fatal. when i saw it for the fish time, it looked as if the body began to die from the inside out. as the scales looked dead.
