Constant temperatures and water parameters are needed to keep the ich at bay, so to speak. One of my tanks goes from 80.3F to 80.5F during the day.... that is the maximum temperature fluctuation that tank has....that is what you want. If a room can be anywhere between 70F at night and 79F during the day, then the heater needs to be set at 79F, even if the fish prefer 74F according to various internet websites. Anyway, good luck on the fish, hope that helps. |

Rid-ich plus is preferable, I don't know about the medicine sneaky pete suggests, but there is more than one way to get something done, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Quick Cure is a little harsh but could be used as well. Don't know about the wardley stuff, but my opinion on them isn't that great. All I can say is that they make decent shrimp pellets. Ask them for a Medicine called RX-P. It is made my Kent company. It is for marine fish but is safe for all freshwater fish as well, including loaches and the such. Use this medicine directly as it says on the label. It cured a tough tough case in my tank, it should work for you. I have found that common ick meds like wardleys and such dont work. RX-P is a wonder med. I reccomend it highly. Also raise your temp in your tank to 82-84 over the period of a day slowly, add 1 tablespoon aquarium salt to the water. Add the Rx-P. I Believe it calls for a full 14 days of treatment. Follow it, even if the fish look good keep dosing until the 14 days are up. And PLEASE dont freeze your fish to euthanize them!!! Use CLOVE OIL. You get it at a pharmacy, any pharmacy. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

jake![]() ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 594 Kudos: 875 Votes: 2 Registered: 21-Mar-2004 ![]() ![]() | Mix 1 ML clove oil in one gallon water. Place fish in water. When they're "knocked out" ( should lay on their side), add approximately 10 ML vodka. Wait 30 seconds. Would be better to acclimate them into a tank with a higher temp ( 85F plus if they can take it), add an air stone, use rid-ich or another formalin/malachite green treatment, and see what happens. If you're dead set on euthanizing them though, that is the most humane, imo. The clove oil acts as an anesthetic and the vodka kills them. It is a parasite. It is a living organism. It infests a whole tank. They lay their eggs in the gravel and the babys swim up to the fish. ALL FISH. By moving the fish, you have spread this parasite to another tank. don't get discouraged though. U just need to forget the babies of the guppy because she can easily have more. U need to consintrate on saving the lives of all the fish. Treat every tank that has any ich in them. Treat the whole tank and dont move the fish any more. |

U shouldn't have community fish with it at all. Also u need to treat the tanks with an ick med. I told u that u would spread the parasite to another tank if u moved the fish. But now that you are in this rut, I will try to help u out. Forget about the babies. They will die of the ick if u dont use the meds. |
