I just spotted 2 salt grain like white things on my dwarf gourami they appear to be ich however I have snails in the tank so I am not sure what I should do to treat it.

10 Gallon
Red Gravel
Java Moss
FISH
1 Honey Dwarf Gourami
3 Platy's (1 Male, 2 Female)
3 Cherry Barbs (2 Female, 1 Male)
1 Ramshorn snail
2 Unknown snails (found in other tank)

Parameters
NitrAte 35
NitrIte 0
Total Harness 300
Alkalinity 0 (I bought some buffering powder but I noticed the ich when inspecting the tank before putting it in)
pH 6.4 (Buffering was also going to add to pH our tap watter is very bad)
Temp 76F

If neccesary I will sacrifice the snails for the fish but I want to avoid that if possible. I am going to add the pH and buffer powder to fix that problem. My heater also went crazy in the beggining of winter but its stable now. This has been a tuff few weeks of fish keeping as I am having pH and buffer problems in both of my tanks luckily I got my other stabilized. Any advice is apreciated.

Since you only have 3 snails, just take them out. Treat with Rid Ich+, Quick Cure, Jungle Ich Guard II, anything with Malachite Green and Formalin listed in the active ingredients, NOT copper. Follow the package instructions, then when the fish have been treated, stick some fresh activated carbon in your filter to pull the medication from the water, leave it for a day or two then add the snails back in.

During treatment, the snails can even be kept in a jar or any other container you have with a bit of tank water and java moss.

You'll also want to correct whatever caused the ich in the first place. Your nitrate is rather high for a fish only tank and IMO the problem could be a bit of overcrowding in the tank that may be stressing the fish out. You will at the very least want to improve your maintenance routine (increase the amount and frequency of water changes, substrate cleaning). If the fish continue to get sick, you'll probably want to find them some more space.

I went and purchased a medication but the fish that had the "ich" doesnt have it anymore. I am not sure what happened I thought it was early stages of ich as there were only 3 spots all in the same spot on the fish. Do I still treat it? Could I have diagnosed it wrong and it wasnt ich? The only other possibility I could think of was that it may have been undisolved buffer medication I am using (white powder) but I am not sure that is it as I disolve all the medication in a cup of water then add it to the tank. Should I wait or should I treat it even if it may not be there?

Sometimes it clears up on its own, but this is rare and even then it would still be present in the tank. Id treat the aquarium , just to be sure.
