Hi all,

I've seen a strange type of affliction on a juvenile silver dollar I have. Essentially, it looks as if part of his skin/scale is peeling away from his body. Have you ever seen an animal that sheds its skin? Something like that. I'm in the process of giving my silver dollars to a friend... but not if one is in this condition.

Any ideas of what it could be?

If necessary, I'll try and get a pic and post it.

Perhaps a parasite involved...

Look closely for a worm-like critter under the scales.

Well you've got me stumped........

There was a thread posted recently in The Hospital by Falstaf regarding bettas with peeling scales. You could have a look at the replies people posted to that thread.

In the meantime, good luck to you and the fish.

Hey Gary,

If indeed there is a worm what treatment would you recommend? The area affected on the skin has "bubbled" a bit so that it's sticking out from the side of the skin. I'm thinking of adding some salt and fungal treatment.
