Hi, I recently got a betta girl a couple months ago, and lately her color has been changing a bit. She has these dark spots on her body, and these white splashs in her fins:

Pic 1: http://home.comcast.net/~pammylz/HPIM0921.JPG It's blurry, she dances around for the camera whenever she see's it. Makes it hard for picture taking..lol.

Pic 2: http://home.comcast.net/~pammylz/HPIM0922.JPG

Unfortunatly, my camera can't seem to capture the white spashes on the pelvic and caudel fin.

She looked like this less than a week & half ago....http://home.comcast.net/~pammylz/HPIM0872.JPG

Her pelvic fin is a mystery to me, I don't know how it has gotten to look like that. She's been in that tank for about two months now, and I think that I would have seen tearing like that way before now.

I've tried Bettamax, full course treatment. Now, just in case it's fungal, I'm currently treating with the Jungle labs Fungus eliminator.

She's really happy, always swimming around investigating the gravel and the background and the plants in her tank. And comes to the front whenever someone comes by to look in.

Tank is still cycling..

Ammonia: 1.0 - 2.0

Nitrites: Anyone that has the Aquarium Pharm. Test tube kit will know the color chart, I don't have mine. But, it registers at the Light-light purple stage....the one just beneath the Blue "0" stage

Nitrates: i'll guess at 1.0. On the chart it's inbetween 0 and 5.0, but closer to 0.

Help? Thanks a lot....

-Pamela

P.S. It's not breeding stripes either, I seen those, and it looks much different on her. Think Zebra. Not a leopard, like she looks right now.

umm. well she seems fine now, but still keep her on the bettamax for a few more days. also b4 i can't be sure, but dont be alarmed when a betta changes color. not uncommon. but in your case i think it may have been a sign of sickness.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear. She is sick now. That picture of her looking healthy was taken about a week & half ago....

She's all spotty now....I've already tried Bettamax, and I'm using Jungle Labs Fungus eliminator now. She looks the same.

I would like to know what this is so I can properly treat it, can anyone help?

Thanks!

-Pamela

Could anyone help?

Has anyone experienced a dark patchy-ness on their fish?

I'm not sure if this is bacterial, fungus, or a parasite....

She is still acting fine. Using the Jungle Labs Binox, because it treats Fungal & bacterial infections. I notice a little improvement, but not much.

Here is updated pictures:
Thanks!

Slow-moving bacterial infection IMO.

I'd go with JFE and try to knock the little devil out, but it doesn't look promising. That is how the bug displayed that took out all of my wild bubblenesters.

EDIT:

I just read your second post. If it wasn't for her clampyness and her damaged fins, i'd say it was just battlescars, but it really does look like an infection. If the JFE and the BettaMax didn't move it, and it is an infection, you aren;t likely to fix her. They are the two main drugs that I would have thought would kill it.
If she is acting fine after the binox, I'd just back off and use pimafix and wait to see if it is an infection, ot just scars from a fight or an infection that has now passed.

Thanks for replying...much appreciated.

I'm using Kanacyn, and it seems to be helping. Not by much, but i notice a difference in the spots...they seem to be getting smaller.

She acts perfectly fine and normal, which dumbfounds me. She eats fine and is busy exploring her tank. She is the only one in her tank. So, theres no way it's battlescars...

how very odd.

Well, if the kanacyn is working, keep at it. Whatever it is must have a pretty tight hold.

Well, almost two weeks later and she is worse. For several days she was looking better. It seems that the disease she has, has adapted to all the medications.

She barely has a tail fin, her caudel fin is almost non-existent, and her dorsal fins is detoriating down to hnothing.

The dark spots on her body now have scales peeling up on those spots. And one of her, dare I say, "nostrils" is inflamed. She's not eating anymore. She looks like she's shaking, and she's twitching more.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am going to try something later when I get home from work that I read on Bettatalk.com. Regarding the fin rot, Faith on her site descibes a very drastic way to get rid of fin rot, only as a last resort.

And if I see no improvements for several days after that, I might have to consider euthanization. I want an easy, and painless way for her, and for me.

Thanks for reading, and helping.

-Pamela
